Our Story

Ingoldisthorpe Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School is situated in beautiful, rural surroundings on the edge of the Sandringham Estate. It is within a few miles of the North Norfolk Coast. We have a large playing field levelled into two sports pitches, which overlook a gently sloping valley. It is surrounded by trees on two sides and by the village church on the third side. The original school building is of carrstone and brick, in traditional Victorian style, and was founded in 1858.

In 1994 the attached school house was converted into a new classroom, with a staff room and office on the first floor. The hall was also improved and extra P.E. facilities were added. A conservatory style extension, built in 2003, was a delightful addition to the school providing excellent accommodation for our reception classroom.

In 2005 a new log cabin was built and in March 2009 we opened two new log cabin classrooms and a library. The buildings are surrounded by attractive grounds which also accommodates our outdoor classroom. It is here where the children can work at benches in a quiet setting, which also sites our pond that supports the local wildlife.

In addition to this we have a tarmac playground with colourful markings to develop imaginative play and a large variety of playground play equipment, a trim trail, climbing wall, wooden train and a carved wooden seating area.

The outdoor log cabin classrooms also have beautifully lit conservatories. The children also have a an activities room, which doubles up as teaching space. Here they can work on day to day lessons, and also cook, work with textiles, paint and carry out a range of science experiments. This has given them a lot of opportunity for hands-on, practical learning. As well as the activities room, the school has an conservatory in the early years class. In the early years the school encourages the children to play and learn outdoors as much as possible, joining onto their outdoor garden and paved play area.
